Debbie Morrill, Director of Adult Day Services in Sarasota, recently received this letter from the family of a frequent visitor to the Living Room. There are two points I wanted to make by sharing the letter here as a blog post.
First, it means so much to everyone when somebody sends a personal note to say thanks. We live in an instant fulfillment world and we text and email all day long. The fact that somebody would actually take the time to write a letter means so much to everybody, especially the team at the Living Room.
Second, how wonderful that a regular visitor to the Living Room would be so appreciative to put the Friendship Centers in their will. The Friendship Centers is a non-profit organization, making a contribution like this that much more important.
I'm so proud to be associated with a group of people like this and I know there are other wonderful senior centers in other communities. If you're out of the area and looking for support for an aging loved one, then do a little research for help in your community.
As you know my father named the Friendship Center Living Room of Sarasota, Florida in his will as one of several beneficiaries of his estate. As directed by the Will, I am enclosing a check"…
"My mother also spent a wonderful two years at the Living Room where she found caring, support and nurturing. The program provided her with stimulus and activities, such as crafts, games and songs, in a warm and supportive environment. The program helped to prolong her life as the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease deteriorated her memory, mind and health. My father also was a beneficiary of that caring and support. The living Room provided him with comfort that my mother was able to spend her days in a secure and nurturing environment, while also providing him with support and understanding as the caretaker for my mother. The enclosed check is my father’s final tribute to the Living Room, given with the knowledge that it will be used to help to enrich and prolong the lives of others.
On behalf of my father and the rest of our family, I want to thank you and everyone at the Living Room."
