Lights of Friendship, on Dec. 9 at the Friendship Centers' Venice campus, will be a sparkling tribute to longtime Venice physician and volunteer, Dr. Richard Beebe and a celebration of the thousands of people whose lives have been touched by the Friendship Centers’ services.
The Center, located at 2350 Scenic Drive on the Intracoastal Waterway, will be decorated with lights, representing the thousands of lives impacted by the Center over nearly four decades. Festivities will get underway at 6 p.m. The Venice Symphony Quartet will perform and guests will be treated to a gourmet dinner by the Crow’s Nest.
Venice Lights of Friendship will raise funds to support the life-saving programs offered at the Venice campus while honoring Dr. Richard Beebe, man whose compassion and dedication to serving seniors have spanned more than two decades. As a volunteer physician and medical director of the Pat Buster Health Services, Dr. Beebe has provided care for hundreds of older adults in need. In addition, he has given years of tireless service on the Friendship Centers’ Board of Governors. He exemplifies the Centers’ slogan, “People Helping People,” the motto since its founding by Brother William Geenen in 1973.
Sponsorships for the event are available ranging from $300 to $5,000. Tickets are $100, and can be purchased online at friendshipcenters.org or by calling 941.556.3205.
The Venice Friendship centers serve more than 2,500 older adults annually, providing vital medical and dental care to low income seniors, senior center programs and activities, nutrition, adult day services, caregiver support and supportive aging services.
The honorary chair for the event is Judy Collins, who with her husband, the late Dr. Thomas Collins, were early supporters of the Friendship Centers. Chairs are her daughter and son-in-law Amelia and Kevin Stass, PA. Committee members include Irene Dion, Betsy Duval, Margaret Goldstein, Ruth Harris, Dixie Hoffman, Blair Monnett, Kim Phillips, Dave Pierce, Gayle Rainville, Dr. Gloria Schranz, Tim Smolarick, Stephanie Stephens, Pat Tyler, Mary Alice Wheeler, and Betsy White,
