The Community Caregiver Forum is presented by the Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast; Area Agency for Aging for Southwest Florida, Jewish Family and Children’s Services, Mental Health Community Centers, Inc.; Proeger and Associates, Inc., Sarasota County Library System; Sarasota Memorial Health Care System; the Sarasota Police Department, Senior Friendship Centers, Inc., and Tidewell Hospice, Inc. Sponsors include The Sarasota County Aging Network and Palm Printing.
Caregivers in need of free respite care for individuals with Alzheimer’s or Dementia should contact the Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter at 941.365-8883 prior to Friday, Oct. 24.
Health Journalist Heidi Godman will highlight the program which provides opportunities to learn from local experts. It will open with Caregiving Skits on mental illness, dementia and long-distance caregiving, the ultimate caregiver and planning for the future.
A panel on Eating Well, Staying Connected and Emotional Well Being follows moderated by Heidi Godman, and featuring Nutritionist Julie Bender-Sibbio, RD, LDN; Recreational Therapist Debbie Morrill, CTRS, and Mental Health Counselor Miriam Lacher, MA,MRC, LMHC.
During the lunch break attendees will have an opportunity to meet community experts for information and referral.
A second panel on Financial and Legal Planning, Housing Options and Community Resources will be moderated by Miriam Lachter, and features Edwin M. Boyer, Esq. of Boyer & Bowman, PA; Gail Holten of the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida; Mike Day of the Department of Children and Families and Ken Waters of the Sarasota Housing Authority.
Professionals wishing to receive CEUS for the Forum, may do so for a $20 fee. 3 ½ hours has been approved for this event under the Florida Board of Nursing and the Florida Board of Clinical Social work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. Sarasota Memorial Health Systems is accredited provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credential Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
